Wearable Constructions: or how can clothes work as emergency shelters - is the name of my graduate collection. It explores the concept of clothing as its basic function: protection - and enhance it and explores it by developing outerwear that has a double purpose, being sleeping bags or tents.

Starting from the concept of a home, rather than a shelter, the idea was to adapt the wearable constructions into an intimate place where the user can go to in times of need while on movement. This is achieved by evoking memories, people, and places.

For this collection I worked alongside visual artist José de Sancristóbal in the conceptual aspects of the collection. A process that was both collaborative and creatively satisfying.

In this age, the design of an object has to function for a greater good in order to distinguish itself from the rest. When a consumer buys an item, he or she searches for it to add value to their lives, and not just take up space. The contemporary user wants sustainability to be part of the design process and not just a marketing tool.
